Cats | Pets | Animals Coloring PagesAll young kids enjoy leaving a mark on a surface. That’s why you should download free coloring pages and print them for your young kids. The first stage of artistic development is called scribbling. When children reach one and a half years old, they will begin to scribble. Scribbling is not really drawing. Children just enjoy the motions of moving their hands and making marks on the surface. However, some experts believe that there is a symbolical significance to what children scribble. Kids don’t realize that they can control how the marks on the surface appear. They just scribble and scribble. It is a random movement that gives them valuable exercise to develop their manual dexterity. Soon, children realize that they can control the marks that they make and they make controlled scribbles. They begin to make discernable lines. Soon they begin to name their scribbles. They may say that the jumbled lines that they made represents mommy.

Homemade Crafts with a Store-bought Appearance: Candle-Making Kits

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

For families who enjoy sitting down and doing something together, gift them with candle making kits this year. Simply include wax cubes, a mold, several wicks, and an optional scented oil. Package them together with a bow, and you’ve got a craft that can go miles, inspire even the youngest, and build memories or traditions.

Instructions with your candle making kits aren’t necessary, but could prove useful for beginners or simply for inspiration among those who aren’t so crafty. Basic candles are simply melted down wax, an anchored wick, (tied to a craft stick or pencil lying across the mold or container and hanging down into the candle), and a few drops of scented oil added when the wax is ready to be poured.

Additional touches can include cutouts of warm wax attached to a candle. Consider making a sample to include with your own candle making kits. Start with your basic candle from a mold. Be sure to take it out of the mold before continuing with this next step. Pour a thin layer of candle wax over a cookie sheet or rubber mat, while still warm but beginning to solidify, cut out a shape. For example around Christmas consider holly leaves or a snowman, gently lift from your work surface, and attache to the side of your candle base with a little melted wax. Allow to set. This is an extraordinary way to give a homemade gift with a store-bought look, all the while encouraging a new tradition of craftiness and family time together.

The Price Point of Dressmaking Fabric

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Where dressmaking fabric is concerned, do you wander into a clothing stores and go straight to the label, looking for a certain material? Or do you eye shop, looking at everything before deciding what to try on? Either way you have to admit that the material a dress is made from is very important when deciding what to select. The dressmaking fabric decides whether something is appealing to you, or whether it’s something that quickly goes on sale. Something that you could ‘wear around the house.’

If you made the right decision as a designer, your clothing should be in the first category. If it’s in the second perhaps people just aren’t interested in expensive satin shirts that can only be worn around the house or in the presence of a fabric protector? This unfortunately reminds us that when choosing the dressmaking fabric the fabric price also has to be taken into great consideration and you must make beautiful things at a good price point.

Usually, sardine oil is used to light the inside of the lamp. Candles are rarely used because of its expensiveness during that time. It became popular during the Edo era. Bonbori is the portable version of Andon. It was later traditionally placed on a stand. It has six-side cross sections and has a wide open top. The chochin is the spiral lantern where paper or silk protects the flame from the wind. Chochin is mostly used in celebrations and special occasions. It usually has designs depicting the rich culture of Japan. Toros are the large lanterns made from stone, iron or bronze. Temple monks build toros around their shrines to illuminate their sanctuary. Toros can be also hanged around the house. All these lighting equipment are the showcase of the culture of Japan.
