When I was a young child my grandmother used to buy my cousin and I savings bonds for various events. At the time I did not really understand what they were but I knew they were some sort of money. I always thought receiving money was great since you could buy whatever you wanted with it. However, savings bonds have some stipulations on them. You have to wait so long before you use them and such. I ended up buying a toy poodle with mine at about fifteen years old. Now when I look back I wish I would have saved them longer. Perhaps if I did I would have gotten more money out of them. It is not like they were penny stocks. I would not even know what penny stocks to buy if I had the option to. In the past I have also been given the gift of a share of stock. It is not quite what a child expects to get as a gift but I always thought it was cool.

My own 15 years worth of swing trading experience has convinced me that trying to time a bottom is a losing strategy. Rather than try and time a bottom, I have found it better to buy that middle area somewhere in between a bottom and a top. I call this the sweet zone. The only type of market bottom I buy off of is what is called a rounded bottom. The way to trade a rounded bottom is to go long as soon as momentum goes positive. My favorite rounded bottom pattern is one that follows a double bottom. Double bottom patterns are consolidation patterns. By waiting for a double bottom to form, you can save yourself from jumping on the long side too early and getting cut by the proverbial falling knife.
